The Folding@HSU Team was started in October 2004 with less than 10 people contributing to the project. As a matter of record, on October 28, 2004, our total team score was 43,315.7 with 522 work units completed, and we were ranked 1,444th of 34,009 teams (Top 5%). That was only after a couple weeks!
Our stated purpose is as follows:
We are using our resources through science and computing to slowly unfold the infinite mystery of God's perfect power and creativity.
More practically, we are attempting to honor God by using the resources he has blessed us with to try to bring joy to those who are hurting. How are we doing that? Well, the research that the Folding@Home project is conducting is aimed at understanding how proteins misfold to cause diseases such as Alzheimer's, cystic fibrosis, mad cow disease, and even some forms of cancer. We are putting our computers to work on the Folding@Home project to help find cures for these diseases and hopefully bring joy and healing in Christ to those who benefit from the research. God is blessing us with the resources to help, and we want to acknowledge that what we are doing is done through Him and we will give Him the glory for it.
