~The Chariot or Rook~

The Chariot in Chinese Chess

~Mode(s) of Movement~

The chariot's mode of movement is as follows: Like in Western chess, the rook moves orthogonally, i.e. any number of points forward, backward, left or right. It is capable of capturing the first enemy piece in its path.

~Piece Tactics~

The chariot is an excellent tool of attack as well as defense. It has been said that if one moves his/her rook within the first two moves of the game, he/she is at least a second class player. Often, it can be used as a screen for the cannon.
